KARACHI: PBC poll urged under new law

Published September 2, 2005

KARACHI, Sept 1: Several Sindh Bar Council members have called for conduct of the Pakistan Bar Council elections in accordance with the provisions of the new Bar Councils and Legal Practitioners’ Act pending in the National Assembly.

According to a statement issued by former SBC executive chairman, Abrar Hasan, the PBC authorities should wait for the enactment of the new law because the new members would hold office for a period of five years. The members were disappointed that the polls were being organized on the basis of old law, rules, procedure and practice, the statement said.

It said the indirect polls stipulated by the old rules could easily be manipulated.
