SAHIWAL: The Ghala Mandi police claimed on Thursday to have arrested four people who extorted Rs50,000 from a man by posing themselves as officers of a state institution.

Ghulam Murtaza, a resident of Dubai Garden, told Dawn that he voluntarily engaged with a union council chairman to collect data of the needy to help them. He said four people trapped him through a phone call and deprived him of Rs50,000.

He said as he had informed his friend Imran about the whole episode, he saw the four men and informed police who chased them down and arrested them near Arifwala Bypass.
