KARACHI, Aug 29: A traffic chaos was witnessed on Monday on various city roads owing to lack of coordination between the caretaker city government setup and the traffic police.

The traffic police were not taken into confidence before the closure of two major roads -– Nawab Siddique Ali Khan Road and New M.A. Jinnah Road. The roads were closed for traffic as they are being repaired, the sources said, adding the traffic police were surprised to see the two roads closed in the morning.

The city government has dug up one track of the dual carriageways on both the places.

The motorists, and drivers of the public transport were caught unawares as they did not know about the digging up of roads and their closure.

The traffic police did not have choice but to divert the traffic to alternative routes. However, the traffic police appeared helpless in regulating the traffic.

“We are making our utmost efforts to regulate the traffic. The first day traffic problem is more than the following days as most of the people come to know that the specific roads are closed for repair.

The situation will be controlled in the days to come”, the DIG Traffic Falak Khurshid said.

He, however, he did not take the responsibility of traffic chaos and said that the digging up of roads was the reason for traffic congestion on city roads.

Despite the fact that the roads were closed for repair, the traffic police were not taking measures to ask the people to remove their vehicles from temporary parking lots along the roads and control the traffic which caused more jams.
