PESHAWAR: Peshawar High Court administrative judges for prisons, Justice Roohul Amin Khan Chamkani and Justice Ishtiaq Ibrahim visited Peshawar Central Prison for examining arrangements made there for protecting prisoners from Coronavirus pandemic.
During the visit, as many as 15 prisoners arrested for petty offences were released on the spot.
Similarly, more than 20 cases of under-trial prisoners were put on fast track for expeditious disposal by different competent courts of jurisdiction. The two Judges issued instructions for disposal of petty nature cases as well as cases of juvenile and female accused.
They visited different barracks of the prison and examined the living conditions.
AIG Khalid Abbas informed the judges that some of the barracks had been turned into quarantine and fresh prisoners had been kept there away from the inmates. He explained different precautionary steps taken by them including spraying disinfectants on the premises of the prison.
The judges expressed satisfaction over the arrangements particularly the hygiene and food stuff. They said that the jail authorities were expected to continue their efforts to maintain such arrangements in future also.
