TOBA TEK SINGH: Gojra Saddar police arrested three police officials, including a sub-inspector (SI), on Saturday for showing negligence, which resulted in escape of two suspects from the lock-up.

The arrested officials were identified as Moongi Bangla police check post in-charge Sub-Inspector Zahid Hussain, Head Constable Nadeem Sajid and Constable Muhammad Iqbal.

The first information report was registered with the Gojra Saddar Police Station under sections of Police Order and the Pakistan Penal Code on the complaint of investigating officer Sub-Inspector Khalid Jamil Akhtar. He said when he visited police check post and got lock-up unlocked, the murder suspect Abid Ali of Chak 435-JB and proclaimed offender Muhammad Rizwan of Chak 284 GB were missing from the lock-up and he later found that they had fled away after breaking the lock-up’s ceiling.

District police spokesperson Attaullah said Abid Ali was in custody in the murder case of one Zakaullah.

CANAL WATER: Deputy Commissioner Amina Munir took notice of the complaints of the farmers of the Arrouti area whose crops were flooded by water of the overflowing minor canal.

She visited Chak 766-GB on Saturday and inspected the crops which were flooded by canal water and directed the irrigation department officials to immediately close the canal and pump the water out of crop fields.

Meanwhile, crops over a vast area were flooded when a 15 foot breach occurred to Gogera branch canal near Chak 289/GB, Rajana. The farmers complained that due to the recent torrential rains more than sufficient water had already accumulated in the fields in the area and farmers of Chaks 335/GB, 291/GB, 285/GB and 284/GB closed their outlets of the canal, which resulted in overflowing of the canal and breach to the canal near Chak 289/GB. The breach was plugged after hectic efforts by the farmers and irrigation department employees.

ROOF COLLAPSE: The roofs and walls of four houses in Chak 754 GB near Pirmahal collapsed due to rain on Saturday; however, no casualty was reported.

The roof of a shop at Pirmahal on Faisalabad-Multan road also collapsed during the rain on late Friday night. The shop found about the roof collapse on Saturday morning.

THEFT: Thieves took away hundreds of maize and millet sacks from a warehouse in wee hours on Saturday at Gojra.

According to Gojra City police, Habiur Rehman of Chak 298/JB had stored 850 maize and millet bags in the warehouse located on Toba Road at Gojra. The thieves broke locks of the warehouse and took away the bags in a truck.
