GWADAR: The Univer­sity of Turbat on Saturday granted scholarship to more than 150 students under the Balochistan Education Endowment Fund (BEEF).

Speaking on the occasion, Provincial Finance Minister Mir Zahoor Ahmed Buledi said it was the priority of the government to award scholarships to talented and de­­serving students under the BEEF and encourage them to acquire higher studies.

“Thousands of students in remote areas of Baloch­istan have benefited from the launch of the merit scholarships under the Bal­o­­ch­istan Education Endow­ment Fund, and special grant for universities has been raised from Rs500 million to 1,500m. Simi­larly, Turbat University has been provided Rs150m, while Balochistan Uni­versity and BUITEMS have been provided Rs320m and Rs330m, respectively,” the minister added.

Speaking at the ceremony, provincial finance secretary Noorul Haq Baloch said: “I am glad to see that Turbat University is at the forefront among the universities recently established in three cities of Balochistan.

He said: “The Balochistan government is promoting education through various scholarship programmes. Students at Turbat Uni­versity are an asset to us.”

Prof Dr Abdul Razzaq Sabir said that a number of achievements accomplished by the Turbat University in a short time was the result of the joint efforts of the university administration, academic staff and public representatives of the area.
