KARACHI: A young man was found dead inside a bogie of a goods train standing in the ground of the Karachi Port Trust in Keamari on Thursday.

Jackson SHO Adil Khan said that the body of the man identified as 24-year-old Shahzaib was recovered from the bogie. The deceased was a heroin addict and might have died due to drug overdose, the police officer added.

The body was taken to the Dr Ruth Pfau Civil Hospital Karachi to ascertain exact cause of death.

An Edhi Foundation spokesperson, who shifted the body to the hospital, claimed that there were torture marks on his body.

The police were waiting for the doctors’ report to proceed further legally.

Guard commits suicide

A guard of a private security firm committed suicide while performing his duty in the Khokhrapar area reportedly over financial problems, said police.

They added that Sher Mohammed, 48, committed suicide by shooting himself on duty at a private bank near Indus Mehtab Area in Khokhrapar.

The body was taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre to fulfil medico-legal formalities.

Khokhrapar SHO Farooq Ahmed Sanjrani quoting a colleague of the deceased said that Sher Mohammed had been disturbed over financial issues.

He had requested his company for some money for the marriage of his daughter. However, the security firm reportedly refused to give him the money over which he became disheartened and ended his life, the officer said.

The SHO added that investigators had found a pistol of the security guard at the place of the incident and further investigation into the matter was under way.

‘Five street criminals held’

The Pakistan Rangers Sindh on Thursday claimed to have arrested five suspected street criminals for allegedly killing four people besides committing several robberies.

The paramilitary force carried out intelligence-based actions in Lines Area, Korangi, Liaquatabad and Nazimabad and detained five suspects namely Kamran Amjad; Waqar Ali, alias Bintu; Asad, alias Chota; Sheeraz, alias Sheri; and Adnan, alias Adi.

“They belonged to a wanted dacoits’ group, which is also involved in killing people over resistance,” said a Rangers spokesperson.

During the initial probe, it transpired that they had committed several robberies in highly organised manner in different areas.

They carried out robberies in homes and shops besides looting people who had drawn cash from banks and money changers.

The Rangers claimed to have seized five pistols from their possession, which were used in carrying out these crimes. “They have been involved in killing four people over putting up resistance during robberies,” said the official.

The held suspects gunned down Mohammed Imadul Islam over resistance in Jacob Line on Dec 28, 2018.

On Sept 30, 2019, they shot dead Taufiq on Shahrah-i-Quaideen. On Nov 19, 2019, they killed Mohammed Imran in Jacob Line. On January 31, 2020, they killed Inam Ali in Soldier Bazaar No. 3.
