PESHAWAR: The Chinese embassy on Wednesday announced 100 scholarships for the students of the University of Peshawar.

Cultural Consular Jiang along with First Secretary Pan Yuqi met Vice-Chancellor Dr Mohammad Asif Khan and Director China Study Centre Prof Zahid Anwer on the campus, according to a statement.

The scholarships would be given in the form of annual expenditure stipends to the deserving students.

The Chinese embassy had also given Rs2 million worth scholarships to 40 students last year.

Both the sides agreed to foster cooperation for establishment of Confucius Centre at the university.

Dr Asif Khan proposed transferring technological support to the proposed centre for mathematical sciences to be set up at the university.

The delegation also announced three months training programmes for faculty and the administrative officers of the varsity, and welcomed the China Study Centre’s role in ongoing exchange visits.
