KARACHI: No holiday in city

Published August 24, 2005

KARACHI, Aug 23: Teaching at educational institutions, including government and private schools, in the city will continue as usual on Aug 24 and 25, it was learnt officially.

Following a number of telephone calls from students, both of the private and public schools, when a spokesman for the Sindh Education and Literacy Department was contacted by Dawn, he clarified on late Tuesday night that there was no change in schedule of holidays already announced by the department in view of the local body election.

The spokesman said that since the polling for union council elections in Karachi had already been completed on Aug 18 there did not arise any question of holiday again.

A two-day closure of educational institutions would be effective on Aug 24 and 25 only in those districts where elections are being held in the second phase, he added.
