KASUR: A man shot dead two of his sisters over a trifle on Tuesday at Sheikhum village in the limits of Sara-i-Mughal police station.

Police claimed to have arrested the suspect and lodged a double murder case against him on the complaint of his father.

According to complainant Rafiq Masih, his son Ashar Masih exchanged harsh words with his sisters Maryam Bibi and Astar Bibi for not serving him with lunch. Later, Ashar allegedly opened fire at Maryam and Astar.

Maryam died on the spot while Astar was rushed to Pattoki THQ Hospital where she succumbed to her injuries a few hours after the incident.

The suspect managed his escape. However, police claimed to have arrested him and registered a case against him on the complaint of Rafiq Masih.

Further investigation is under way.

PROTEST: Scores of transgender persons on Tuesday staged a protest against Chunian police for its alleged inaction against a suspect who allegedly occupied the house of a local transperson and took away cash and gold.

The protesters, led by Khawaja Sara Association Punjab office-bearer Saima Butt, also blocked the Changa Manga-Lahore Road in front of the City Chunian police station and chanted slogans.

Reports said Nadia (also a transperson) with the connivance of some suspects occupied the house of ‘guru’ Razia some weeks back. She alleged that the suspects had taken away cash worth Rs500,000 and gold ornaments at gunpoint.

She said despite submitting an application to the City Chunian police, no action had been taken.

Over 100 transpersons that had come from Lahore and various parts of Kasur gathered in front of the Chunian city police station and blocked the road by burning tyres. They holding placards inscribed with anti-police slogans threw traffic out of gear.

Later, on the assurance of SHO Muhammad Ashraf Naul, the protesters dispersed peacefully.
