HARIPUR: A teenage girl committed suicide in a remote village of Pind Hashim Khan union council, police said here on Monday.

Saddar police quoted family sources as saying that the victim, 16, of Alooli village locked herself in her room and ended her life after having been scolded by her father over not helping her mother in household chores.

They said when the girl did not turn up for breakfast the family members broke into her room and found her dead. According to the family, the deceased consumed some poisonous substance while doctors said the death occurred due to consumption of anti-rodent pills.

Meanwhile, the police claimed to have busted a gang of seven car-lifters, who had been operating in different areas of KP and Punjab provinces.

Addressing a news conference on Monday, SP investigations Asif Gohar Khan said the police’s anti-car lifting cell gathered information from the footage of CCTV cameras and traced the accused involved in car and motorbike lifting.
