MUZAFFARGARH: A patient died on Thursday when a Rescue 1122 emergency service ambulance plunged into a canal after colliding with a van near Khangarh, some 15km from here.

According to a spokesman for the emergency service, an ambulance was shifting two patients from Ali Pur tehsil to the district headquarters hospital for treatment when it collided with a poultry supply van near Khan Garh. As a result, the ambulance careened off the road and plunged into a canal, resulting in death of one of the patients, Ghous Bukhsh, on the spot.

The Rescue 1122 staff and passersby, however, rescued the other patient and the attendants who suffered minor injuries in the accident. Following the accident, the poultry van driver fled the scene.

District Emergency Officer Dr Irshadul Haq said he was looking into the matter.

POWER THEFT: A Multan Electric Power Company team nabbed 244 consumers involved in electricity theft, getting registered 119 case against them in different police stations.

Mepco Superintendent Engineer Nazar Dabb said during the last month, the department had also recovered Rs4.4 million from defaulters.

FLOUR: Deputy commissioner Amjad Shoaib Tareen has claimed there was no shortage of wheat flour in the district.

He said 160 flour sale points were established by the administration in the district and four assistant commissioners were monitoring these outlets where staple food item was available on official rates.

He said that his monitoring teams were also checking the shops to ensure ample supply of flour without overcharging.
