SUKKUR: A delegation of Pakistan Peoples Party-affiliated Mahar brothers, who wield considerable political influence in Ghotki district, met PPP chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari and Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah at CM House in Karachi on Tuesday, according to a spokesman for MNA Sardar Mohammad Bux Khan Mahar.

The spokesman told media personnel in Ghotki on Tuesday that the other members of the delegation were Special Assistant to the CM Mir Bangal Khan Mahar, Haji Zabardast Khan Mahar, Haji Meer Khan Mahar, Haji Dadan Khan Mahar and Ghulam Rasool Khan Mahar.

After discussing political situation in the province with the delegation, Mr Bhutto-Zardari expressed his confidence that PPP would make a clean sweep in the upcoming local government elections throughout Sindh, including Ghotki district, the spokesman said.

He told the Mahars that he remembered the commitments he had made with them at a public meeting of PPP in Khangarh some time ago.

He held out the assurance that the development schemes for Ghotki district would be executed as per the commitments. He said he took the responsibility to get them executed and ensure Ghotki’s progress and prosperity of its people.

The PPP chairman said he would soon start a party membership campaign in the district.

MNA Sardar Mahar briefed the party chief about political situation in the district and position of PPP allies and rivals with reference to the upcoming LG elections.

In his meeting with the delegation, CM Murad Ali Shah pointed out that several development schemes announced under the ‘Ghotki development package’ were already being executed and the remaining ones would be launched soon.

MNA Sardar Mahar apprised him of poor state of healthcare and basic facilities in the district and called for measures to improve law and order in the area.
