Women in logistics

KARACHI: A seminar titled ‘Women in Logistics and Transport — Breaking Barriers’ was held on Friday at a local hotel, says a statement.

The event, organised by the Women in Logistic and Transport (WiLAT) the women’s forum of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport in collaboration with the US consulate, featured Sindh Minister for Women Development Syeda Shehla Raza as chief guest.

The agenda of the event was to emphasise the role of women in the area of logistics and transport. The speakers highlighted the growing need for the development of the logistics and transport sector and the need for diversity in the industry.

Speakers discussed the opportunities, obstacles and viable solutions for a more diverse force in the logistics and transport industry.

Minister Shehla Raza spoke about the measures her ministry is taking to empower women and close the gender gap. She informed that the government is working to strengthen capacities by linking women with education, skills, business development, financial assistance, market linkages and knowledge-sharing to enable women to contribute effectively to the economy.

She said that the logistics and transport industry is an important industry where women need to be represented. The women’s division would provide every assistance to help women empowerment in this industry so that they not only contribute to the economy but are able to enjoy their right to control and benefit from the resources, assets, income, and their own time, as well as the ability to manage risks and improve their economic status and well-being.
