Arrest warrants issued for anchorperson Mubashir Luqman

ISLAMABAD: An additional district and sessions judge of Islamabad on Friday issued non-bailable warrants of arrest for TV anchorperson Mubashir Luqman in a criminal complaint filed against him by Anwar Aziz, father of ex-minister Daniyal Aziz, for allegedly using slanderous language.
The court also issued arrest warrants for Luqman’s guarantor Rehan Ishfaq as Luqman who was on pre-arrest bail in this matter remained absent in three consecutive court hearings.
Additional district and sessions judge Sikandar Khan was hearing a criminal complaint filed by Aziz against Luqman for allegedly using slanderous and contemptuous language.
In a broadcast, Luqman passed certain remarks against the personal life of Aziz in 2016.
In response, Aziz filed a criminal complaint against anchorperson seeking action against him under the Pakistan Penal Code.
Luqman was attending the court proceedings, however, since he remained absent for three consecutive dates, the judge issued arrest warrants for him as well as against his guarantor. The court issued the non-bailable arrest warrants for them through station house office (SHO) police station Kohsar.
The court put off further proceeding till Jan 22 and directed the Kohsar SHO to produce Luqman on the date. The court warned the SHO for legal proceeding if the warrants were not executed.

Nobody should be above law, no matter who they are or what is their political and social status in society. Law should be same and seen to be acting on behalf of all citizens and delivering verdicts based on evidence presented in the court. No personal favours!

These anchors persons and their bosses must be held accountable for their actions. They sensationalize the news, make a mockery of Pakistan’s current affairs and give broadcast media a bad name.

I say: arrest Mubashar Luqman and set an example, so that nobody take advantage of our law, because they are politicians, anchors or bussinessmen. Law should be same for all citizens, no matter what is their social status in society!

Why does PEMRA not strictly handle issues such as slander, false propaganda, unconfirmed news broadcasts is beyond me.
Mubasher Luqman is an old-hand in TV and has been around for many years. This is a case of over-confidence. Very sad he is ruining his future prospects. Salams

Mubasher Lucman needs to be investigated for a lot more than defaming others. The public would want to know how he managed to become ultra rich being a TV journalist? He owns 2 aircraft and lives a lavish lifestyle. What are the sources of his income?

What types of courts and Judges are there in Pakistan? Luqman case was lodged in 2016, its proceeding are still going on . Are these Judges so efficient that they can not decide such cases in 4 years time?
