HARIPUR: Four people, including three women, suffered injuries when two groups of a family exchanged fire in a remote village of Beer union council here on Thursday.

The police said Shaheen Bibi had shifted to her parents’ house after developing differences with husband Sabir Sultan.

They said Sabir went to his in-laws on Friday for asking them to send his wife home but the latter refused leading to a scuffle and exchange of fire.

The police said the gunfire left Sabir, his sister Ruqaya Bibi, mother-in-law Latifan Bibi, brother-in-law Ali Asghar and relative Zakia Bibi injured.

The police arrested Sabir and Ali Asghar and shifted the injured to the local trauma centre.

Meanwhile, commissioner of Hazara division Syed Zaheerul Islam on Thursday inaugurated a langar khana (soup kitchen) and a shelter home for homeless people and travellers.

He said the government had taken the initiative in line with the vision of Premier Imran Khan.

The commissioner said a lack of food and shelter was the biggest social problem, which encouraged beggary and criminal activities, so the shelter home-langar khana initiative had been launched to address it.

He said the district administration was responsible for managing soup kitchens but philanthropists had been helping it for the purpose.

The commissioner asked the community and media to inform the administration about the needy and homeless people in Haripur district to ensure that they’re helped.

Earlier, he inaugurated a plantation campaign in the district by planting a sapling on the railway station premises.

Students and teachers of the private schools took part in the activity and planted 400 saplings of different species.

Officials of the forest department, district administration and Private Schools Regulatory Authority were also present on the occasion.
