KARACHI, Aug 18: Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad Khan has congratulated the people on peaceful conduct of first phase of local bodies election. In this regard, he appreciated the law-enforcement agencies, candidates and the people for their collective efforts and playing their role in a positive manner.

He pointed out that the overall situation remained satisfactory prior to elections, as well as during the polling in the province. With these elections, he said, the system of devolving powers to the grassroots level, introduced by President Pervez Musharraf, would get strength and continuity.

This system is a silent revolution whose affects are reaching people directly, he added.

He said that zeal and enthusiasm shown by the people for participation in the elections, has demonstrated their complete faith in this system.

The governor expressed the hope that all the factions taking part in the elections, would forget their differences and work jointly for development and welfare of this city, the province, the country and the people.

He particularly appreciated the day and night efforts of the law-enforcement agencies and said despite limited resources these institutions, during the last three years, have been demonstrating their professional capabilities and came up to the trust of people.

The governor hoped that all the candidates and their supporters, will accept the results of these elections with an open heart.

“We can traverse the path of development only by promoting civilized traditions, understanding and thus have a recognition for our respectful and significant position.
