ISLAMABAD: The National Institute of Health (NIH) has completed training of staff deputed at all entry points of the country so that risk of transfer and spread of diseases can be reduced.

The goal of this training is to increase competence and capacity of the staff for managing public health risk and threats at airports, ground border crossings and sea ports.

According to a statement, training workshops were organised throughout the country and nearly 200 staff members have been trained.

During the session conducted in Islamabad, NIH Executive Director Maj Gen Prof Aamer Ikram said that the institute continues to support government institutions that are engaged in public health and disease prevention campaigns across the country.

Being the leading agency in public health surveillance and response, NIH is providing technical facilitation in the capacity building of national departments, he added.
