LAHORE: The PML-N on Tuesday moved a privilege motion in the Punjab Assembly questioning ‘constant’ absence of Chief Minister Usman Buzdar from the House.

Submitted by party lawmaker Sadia Taimur, the motion said the chief minister had not been attending the Punjab Assembly session for the last six months showing his lack of interest in the matters of legislation.

It said the constant absence of the chief minister from the House showed his “irresponsible attitude” and that he did not care for the legislature that had elected him as its custodian.

The motion said Mr Buzdar’s absence was also causing unrest among the ruling party lawmakers who also wanted him to be present in the House during important legislation.

Meanwhile, PML-N information secretary MPA Azma Bokhari critcised the PTI government, saying the party should better focus on improving its economic policies than “consuming its energies on formulating media strategy.”

In a statement, she said Prime Minister Imran Khan had so far appointed 40 spokesperson in Punjab to take on the opposition, while the Buzdar administration had “miserably failed” to deliver in the province. Now the PTI government had added 31 more spokespersons, raising the tally to 71, which, she said, was unprecedented in the province’s history.

Ms Bokhari added that after having 71 spokespersons, Mr Buzdar’s name should be included in the Guinness Book of World Records.
