RAWALPINDI: Regional Police Officer (RPO) Sohail Habib Tajik has sought details on the increasing number of child sexual abuse, kidnapping and rape cases from the Rawalpindi city police officer and the district police officers of Attock, Jhelum and Chakwal.

The officials have also been directed to submit details of those arrested in connection with these cases.

According to police sources, the RPO has directed police officials to allocate a separate register for cases of child sexual abuse and sexual violence against women.

A pro forma has also been sent to police officers in this regard.

The first part of the pro forma contains the name of the police station, the date of the offence, the particulars of the complainant and their mobile phone number, the suspect’s name, brief details of the incident, whether the suspect has been arrested, and the reason of acquittal, release or sentence, if applicable.

The second part seeks details regarding the suspect, such as a previous history of involvement in similar cases, details of cases registered against them, their residential address, age and so on.

He has also directed the concerned police officials to collect information on people residing with male minors, including their names, any previous criminal history and the police station’s name.

In addition, the details of individuals involved in sex crimes, their CNIC and mobile phone numbers, photographs, sources of income, marital status, details of family members and recent dates of arrest should also be submitted.

According to data collected by the police, cases of kidnapping of women have increased from 444 in 2018 to 535 in 2019. Rape cases increased from 67 in 2018 to 76 in 2019, and gang rapes rose from four in 2018 to six in 2019.

There was also a sharp increase in child sexual abuse cases, from 83 to 117 between 2018 and 2019.

Two arrested for assaulting teenage boy

Police arrested two suspects for allegedly sexually assaulting a boy in Kahuta on Sunday. Videos and weapons were also recovered from the suspects.

One of the suspects was identified in the FIR registered with the Kahuta police on Friday, on the complaint of the victim’s uncle. The victim was also being blackmailed.

Police said one of the suspects confessed during the interrogation to abusing five other boys, but his accomplice said he had not been involved in such an incident in the past.

The suspects and victim will undergo DNA testing at the forensic laboratory in Lahore.
