MIANWALI: District Police Officer (DPO) Hassan Asad Alvi claims that during the year 2019 crime ratio in the district went down due to active cations of the police.

He said during the year, the police conducted 432 search operations to bust criminals in various parts of the district. During these operation, the police succeeded to arrest 718 people -- 161 of category-A, 557 of category-B, one absconder having head money, one arrested at airport and 306 court absconders.

He revealed that in various crackdowns on narcotics sellers, the police registered 676 cases, arrested 680 criminals and recovered from them 502kg charas, 1,1042 liter liquor, 3,68 kg opium and 90.39 kg heroin.

The narcotics impounded is of worth more than Rs550 million. He said that in the crackdown on illegal weapon holders, the police registered 675 cases, arrested 1,675 people and recovered from them 66 Kalashnikov, 325 guns, 294 rifles, 26 revolvers, 69 carbines, 1,095 pistols of 30 bore and 10,761 cartridges.

He said that in crackdown on gamblers, the police registered 185 cases and arrested 836 gamblers besides recovering money at stake Rs3 million, 181 motorcycles, 380 mobile phone, two LED TV sets, four computers and five laptops. Up to 81 murder cases were also registered. The police also busted 17 criminal gangs by arresting 47 criminals wanted in 87 cases of various police stations of the district,

The DPO said 19 cars were impounded at the entry points of the district which were stolen from various parts of the country.

Under the Safe City Programme, 64 CCTV cameras were installed at prominent places of the city.

About traffic police, he said various seminars were being arranged in different educational institutions and at bus and truck stands beside training wardens with modern technology.
