LAHORE: The Chuhng police Wednesday arrested a doctor and her husband in connection with the death of their teenage maid who allegedly died from their violence at their residence on Tuesday.

The police took action after the initial investigation that Sana (14) breathed her last at the residence of their masters - Dr Humaira and her husband Junaid (a textile mills employee) - and they never took her to hospital.

Investigation In Charge Ejaz Rasul told Dawn Sana died a painful death as Dr Humaira used to beat her.

He said it was Sana’s first job as domestic help when her parents, residents of Hujra Shah Muqeem, left her at Junaid’s residence for job a couple of months back.

Mr Ejaz said Dr Humaira beat up Sana several times on her mistakes. Gradually, Sana fell ill because of frequent domestic abuse.

“Some days back, Dr Humaira beat her up severely with a bailna (wooden roller) leaving life-threatening bruises on her body,” Mr Ejaz said, adding that on questioning the couple, however, claimed she suffered injuries after falling from stairs. The couple, however, could not justify denying her treatment at hospital.

Dr Humaira works at Mansoora Hospital, the police official said.

On Tuesday both Dr Humaira and her husband left their house for job and when they returned, they found Sana dead.Chuhng circle DSP Raja Fakhar who also visited the house later ordered the arrest of the couple.

Junaid and Dr Humaira will be presented before the court on Thursday for remand.
