SUKKUR: The Sukkur office of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) recovered Rs10 billion from erring officers of food department and others after plea bargain settlements during 2019 and the recoveries included two huge chunks of Rs9.694 billion and Rs140 million, according to the agency’s performance report for the bygone year.
The report issued on Tuesday said that NAB had recovered up till this day Rs2211.629 million from corrupt people in different cases after plea bargain.
The agency received 5,585 complaints out of which 28 complaints were converted into inquiries, 72 inquiries were approved, 30 complaints were converted into investigation, 42 investigations were approved and 26 investigations were converted into references.
NAB filed 18 references in accountability court and had 46 accused arrested. It acted on several complaints filed by poor labourers about non-allotment of residences in 1,536 apartments and 274 houses constructed at a cost of Rs5 billion in Sukkur, Shaheed Benazirabad and Larkana for labourers, it said.
The NAB authorities came in contact with Workers Welfare Board as well as Employees Old-age Benefits Institution and impressed upon them to hand over the residences to the poor labourers after having completed all legal requirements.
It said the NAB held several meetings with Sukkur Electric Power Company authorities to help it meet target of zero load-shedding and curb electricity theft and recovered more than Rs10 million from defaulters, which as a result decreased the company’s circular debt.
NAB Sukkur held conferences and meetings with authorities of health department to ensure availability of vaccines of dog-bite and snakebite in Sukkur region.
Boy attacked by rabid dog
An eight-year-old boy was attacked by a rabid dog in Sono Qazi village near Khanpur Mahar in Ghotki district on Tuesday.
Villagers said the family members took Noor Hassan Channa to Shaikh Hamadan Bin Muhammad taluka hospital in Khanpur Mahar for vaccination but the hospital turned them away saying it did not have the vaccine.
The staff advised them to take the boy to district headquarters hospital in Mirpur Mathelo for vaccination, said the villagers.
