ISLAMABAD: At least 18 people were injured in a gas cylinder blast at a restaurant in the Jinnah Super Market area on Saturday night.

According to police, the condition of five of the injured is serious.

The injured, mostly from the restaurant’s kitchen staff, have sustained burn injuries and wounds from flying shards of windowpanes.

Preliminarily findings suggest the blast took place because of a gas leak.

According to some eyewitnesses, the restaurant was badly damaged.

Police and rescue workers shifted the injured to a hospital where they were put under observation after initial treatment.
