ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s top ranked player Tayyab Aslam and Farhan Mehboob went through to the semi-finals of the Serena Hotel-Huawei Pakistan Interna­tional Squash Championship here at Mushaf Squash Complex on Tuesday.

Tayyab took only 20 minutes to tame Egypt’s Yahya Elnawasany, not letting the latter settle at all in the first set.. Tayyab had to deal with some resistance by Elnawasany in the second but his domination prevailed until the match ended 11-2,11-8, 11-3.

Tayyab will face second seed Mohamed ElSherbini in the semi-final, who defeated Portugal’s Rui Soares 11-7, 11-9, 11-7 in a 34-minute clash.

Earlier, seasoned Farhan Mehboob took only 20 minutes to eliminate compatriot Farhan Zaman , outclassing him 11-2, 4-11, 11-5, 11-3.

He will face top seed Egypt’s Youssef Ibrahim in his last-four encounter Ibrahim made it to the semis after beating Pakistan’s Asim Khan from 13-11, 11-13, 11-5, 11-9 .

In women’s event, Egyptian players remained dominant as Hana Moataz, Farida Mohmed and Meena Hamed qualified for the semi-finals. Sabrina Sobhy of the United States completed the last four line-up.

Men’s semi-finals: Youssef Ibrahim (Egypt) bt Muhammad Asim Khan (Pakistan) 13-11, 11-13, 11-5, 11-9; Farhan Mehboob (Pakistan) bt Farhan Zaman (Pakistan) 11-2, 4-11, 11-5, 11-3; Tayyab Aslam (Pakistan) bt Yahya Elnawasany (Egypt) 11-2, 11-8, 11-3; Mohamed El-Sherbini (Egypt) bt Rui Soares (Portugal) 11-7, 11-9, 11-7.

Women’s semi-finals: Hana Moataz (Egypt) bt Farah Momen (Egypt) 11-7, 11-8, 11-7; Farida Mohamed (Egypt) bt Waen Li Lai (Malaysia) 11-6, 10-12, 7-11, 15-13, 11-8; Meena Hamed (Egypt) bt Cindy Merlo (Switzerland) 11-8, 11-7, 8-11, 11-9; Sabrina Sobhy (USA) bt Nadia Pfister (Switzerland) 11-4, 11-7, 11-2.
