RAWALPINDI: Seven people were robbed of jewellery, cash and mobile phones on Monday, according to victims and the police.

Police reports said that robbers targeted families and pedestrians in busy areas in the city.

Iftikhar Ahmed complained to the Saddar Bairooni police that he and his wife were intercepted by four unidentified people on motorcycles who stole five gold bangles worth Rs400,000.

In a similar incident, a woman was robbed of gold jewellery and Rs5,000 in cash after she was intercepted by four motorcyclists outside her home in the Racecourse area. She told police that she was in her car when she was robbed.

Families, pedestrians being targetted in the city

University student Mohammad Adnan told the Waris Khan police that he was robbed at gunpoint by two people on a motorcycle on Tipu Road.

They stole his RIW 914 motorcycle, wallet and mobile phone.

Mohammad Sadiq was robbed of his mobile phone by three people on a motorcycle as he headed towards Liaquat Bagh, while Hassan Mehmood’s mobile phone was stolen by a man as he was heading to the Liaquat Bagh metro bus stop.

Eid Gah resident Makhdoom Hassan Qureshi told Banni police that he was paying a taxi driver who drove him home after night duty when both of them were robbed by two unidentified masked men at gunpoint.

His mobile phone and wallet, which contained Rs10,000 in cash, were stolen while the taxi driver was robbed of his mobile phone and Rs2,700 in cash. The robbers then fled towards the main graveyard.

“I had to ask the police to register an FIR of the incident. The case was registered after some efforts by the Banni police, who seemed least interested in any preventive measures against street crime,” Mr Qureshi told Dawn.
