KARACHI: The Sindh High Court on Tuesday granted 14-day protective bail to former provincial information minister Sharjeel Memon in the ‘fake’ bank accounts case.

The former minister through his lawyer moved the SHC and submitted that the National Accountability Bureau had issued a call-up notice to the petitioner on Dec 5 in fake bank accounts case asking him to provide some documents.

The petitioner expressed the apprehension that he might be arrested and pleaded for protective bail to approach the authorities concerned.

The two-judge bench headed by Chief Justice Ahmed Ali M. Shaikh granted 14-day transitory-cum-protective bail to the petitioner against a surety bond of Rs100,000 and directed him to approach the proper forum within two weeks.

The former minister had obtained post-arrest bail from SHC in June in a NAB reference about alleged corruption in awarding advertisements to media. He also obtained interim pre-arrest bail in assets beyond his known sources of income case.
