LAKKI MARWAT: Students of Government Postgraduate College, Lakki, demonstrated at Shaheed Abid Ali Chowk here on Monday to protest the composite examination system at the intermediate (FA, FSC) level introduced by the government.

A good number of students came out of the college building and gathered at the busy square on Lakki-Tajazai Road to record their protest. Several protesters carried placards, demanding abolition of the composite examination policy.

The protesting students, however, avoided closing road to vehicular traffic. They said educational boards had announced composite exam system for higher secondary school certificate examinations which was not acceptable to them. They insisted that the new exam system would put extra burden on students and would not bring any improvement. They asked the government to reconsider its decision.

BATTLE AGAINST DRUG TRADE: Regional Police Officer, Bannu division, Abdul Ghafoor Afridi has said the narcotics sellers are playing with the future of our youths and as such they deserve no mercy.

He stated this while chairing a meeting at police lines on Monday to take stock of recent actions carried out against drug barons and criminals.

The regional police chief appreciated the performance of local police and rewarded officials with commendation certificates and cash prizes. He said the narcotics traders were enemies of nation and directed police not to spare them.

RPO Afridi asked the police authorities to launch public awareness campaigns to educate people, particularly youths, about the hazards of using narcotics, especially ice drug.

District police officer Qasim Ali Khan, SP investigations Shafeeq Wazir, DSPs Hidayatullah Shah, Iqbal Mohmand, station house officers and investigation officers were in attendance.

Briefing the RPO, the district police officer said along with four major drug traders the police had arrested 75 people involved in narcotics business during a weeklong operation. He said cops also captured 29 proclaimed offenders.

Mr Qasim said police seized over 60kg hashish, 5kg heroin and a small quantity of ice drug from narcotics traders and registered cases against them.
