HARIPUR: The Haripur district administration on Friday razed 20 shops and portion of a mosque constructed illegally on a water channel along Dheri-Sikandarpur Road.

According to additional assistant commissioner Adnan Jameel Khan, the head of anti-encroachment campaign, the authorities had marked the encroached upon land about a year ago and served the occupants with notices for voluntary demolition of the structures. But the occupants had moved court claiming the ownership.

However, after the court decision the occupants were once again served notices, but to no avail.

On Friday, the anti-encroachment team reached the point along with officials of TMA Haripur, Pesco, PTCL and a contingent of police and razed all the 20 shops and portion of the mosque.
