SAHIWAL: Judicial Magistrate Naveed Raza on Tuesday started a probe into death of an under trial prisoner who breathed his last at DHQ Hospital on Monday night.

Central jail staff claimed that prisoner Naveed was suffering from some breathing problem because of which he was shifted to DHQ Teaching Hospital where he died.

It was learnt that the Chichawatni city police had nabbed Naveed from Shamaspura locality in connection with a gypsy woman rape case on Nov 25.

The family of Naveed alleged that the police didn’t inform them about his whereabouts. City police sources said he was shifted to central jail for ‘identification parade’.

The judicial magistrate has recorded statements of family, jail staff, city police officials and doctors.

Police claimed that they arrested Ali Abbas and Ghulam Abbas in the same case from Lahore.

TRADER LOOTED: A trader was shot at and injured and robbed of Rs1.2 million here on Tuesday at Kacha Paka on Noor Shah Road.

Reports said Shaikh Waqas was on his way by his car when he was stopped by three unknown robbers riding motorcycles. Robbers shot at and injured him and made off with Rs1.2m.
