LAKKI MARWAT: Commissioner Bannu division Adil Sadiq inaugurated two farmer markets in Lakki Marwat on Monday to help growers sell their produce without paying any market fees or taxes.

The inaugural events were attended among others by deputy commissioner Jehangir Azam Wazir, assistant commissioner Nadir Shahzad Khan, district director agriculture Abdul Qayyum and district food controller Mohammad Hayat Khan.

After inaugurating a farmer market on the premises of district agriculture office in Lakki city, the divisional commissioner spoke to a gathering of growers, telling them that the markets had been established on the directives of the provincial government.

“The initiative is aimed to end the role of middlemen and commission agents and facilitate farmers to sell their produce directly to the buyers,” he maintained, adding farmers visiting the markets to sell their commodities could also buy fertiliser, seeds and pesticides on subsidised rates.

Mr Adil also inaugurated a farmer market in busy Mela Mandi Bazaar.

SIX ARRESTED: Police on Monday claimed to have arrested six outlaws and seized weapons from them during a surprise raid on their hideout in the limits of Lakki Marwat police station.

DSP Hidayatullah Shah told a press conference that law enforcers besieged the hideout of proclaimed offenders and overpowered them without resistance. He said the arrested men included Sabz Ali, Ashrafullah, Obaidullah, Saddam, Javed and Shoiab, all wanted by police in murder and attempted murder cases.

He said nine assault rifles, a repeater gun, six pistols, 29 magazines and around 800 bullets were seized from outlaws and a case was registered against them.

EID MILADUN NABI: Like other parts of the country Eid Miladun Nabi was celebrated with religious fervour in Lakki Marwat.

The administration with support of boy scouts association and education department held a function at Government Shaheed Mohammad Ghassan Khan Centennial Model High School in Lakki city. The venue was decorated with colourful banners. Students and scouts recited naats.

District education officer Nazir Ahmad Khan highlighted the teachings of the Holy Prophet (PBUH) and urged the faithful to mould their lives according to injunctions of the true religion. In Lakki city, Anjaman Ghulamaan-i-Mustafa also took out a Milad rally, starting from the Jamia Mosque Ghousia and converging at Milad Park.
