PESHAWAR: The students of Khyber Girls Medical College clinched all the top five positions in 2nd year MBBS examination conducted by Khyber Medical University, according to a press release.

Farrah Afsheen stood first by getting 624 marks, Naima Tariq remained second with 613 marks, Ammad Saeed stood third with 607 marks, Kainat remained fourth with 603 marks and Nimra Khan and Sheh Noor shared the fifth position by getting 602 marks each.

KGMC ranked top in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in an inspection carried out by the defunct Pakistan Medical and Dental Council, now Pakistan Medical Commission, last month. It secured 92.4 per cent scores and remained only five points behind 98 per cent got by Aga Khan University, a private institution, which topped the list of institutions providing quality education in the country.

A total of 165 medical schools were inspected in the month-long drive and most of the high rated institutions in the list were private or army-run.

KGMC, established in 2004, was initially recognised to induct 50 girl students and the number was enhanced to 100 in 2010. Last month, its students grabbed four of the five top positions in the first professional MBBS examination.

KGMC Dean Prof Noor Wazir attributed the success to the hard work by students, faculty and staff members.

“Our students have been performing well because we have adopted latest and internationally-recognised methods of teachings, which enable fast learning,” he said.
