KARAK: The people of Karak city have complained of acute water shortage, saying the tehsil municipal administration has failed to provide the commodity to the residents.

The concern was made at a meeting on Monday with a social worker, Usman Ghani in the chair.

The participants said out of five tubewells being operated by the tehsil municipal administration, three had turned brackish.

The elders said more than 50,000 people of Karak city were forced to purchase drinking water. They demanded that the water should be supplied to the city either from the Karak dam or Lawagher dam. They regretted that a Rs180 million water supply scheme of the last PTI government could not materialised over unknown reasons.

The participants also complained about faulty drainage system in the city due to which rainwater remained stagnant on the streets and roads for days. They also complained about absence of streetlights in the urban locality.

Meanwhile, Asif Khan, an official of the public health engineering department, told Dawn on contact that the total water demand of the Karak city was over 30,000 gallons per day, but both the PHED and TMA were providing only 13,000 gallons per day to the residents.
