HARIPUR: The traffic on Haripur-Khanpur Road remained suspended for over an hour when Havelian-bound Hazara Express broke down at the Central Jail level-crossing after developing a fault here on Friday afternoon.

Passengers and witnesses said the Hazara Express was coming from Rawalpindi, adding when it was about a furlong from the Haripur railway station it developed some fault forcing the driver to apply brakes in the middle of the Khanpur level-crossing, leading to closure of the Haripur-Khanpur Road.

However, the mechanical staff from the Kotnajibullah and Haripur railway stations reached the site, examined the engine and its coaches and detected the fault.

The staff then took the train to Haripur railway station after temporary arrangements where they removed the fault, thus allowing the driver to take the train to its final destination.

When contacted, the Haripur station master told Dawn that brake jamming of one of the coaches forced the driver to stop the train at the level-crossing.

He denied that the train was derailed or it took long time for clearing the level-crossing.
