Senate committee summons PCB chairman, calls team's performance against Sri Lanka 'shameful'

The Senate Standing Committee on Inter-Provincial Coordination (IPC) on Wednesday summoned Pakistan Cricket Board Chairman Ehsan Mani over the dismal performance of the national cricket team against Sri Lanka.
Sri Lanka’s tour of Pakistan ended earlier this month with the guests completing a 3-0 clean-sweep in the Twenty20 series in Lahore. Pakistan had claimed the ODI series in Karachi with 2-0.
The committee members expressed concerns over the lackluster performance of the green shirts in the matches.
"Had we [committee members] been in the place of the cricket team, Pakistan would have won," remarked Committee Chairman Senator Sardar Yaqoob Khan Nasar.
PML-N Senator Mushahidullah Khan criticised the PCB chairman for not attending the meetings and asked the committee chairman to make it mandatory for the chief of the cricket body to attend all meetings of the Senate committee.
He alleged that Umar Akmal and Ahmed Shehzad were included in the team "as a favour", adding that Misbahul Haq was pressured to take the decision.

PTI Senator Faisal Javed said that he was unable to digest the defeat of green shirts on home ground. The senator termed the performance as "shameful". He also raised questions over the appointment of the same person as chief selector and coach.
Last month, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), in a first, had appointed former skipper Misbahul Haq to the joint position of head coach and chief selector for the men's team.
Javed said he wanted to know the reasons behind the team's defeat, asking why all the members of the "number one Twenty20" team were changed.
The senator said that former head coach Mickey Arthur had leveled several accusations against Umar Akmal, inquiring as to why the sportsman was included in the team soon after Arthur's departure.
He added that all these issues should be addressed before the upcoming "important tour" of Australia.

Someone should ask committee members about their own performance. Is it a cricket relate committee If not then why is it focusing on cricket. What about other issues and other sports.They just want to stay in news and nothing else

Unbelievable. Unless the govt is directly funding the pcb, I don't see any reason why they should get involved. Besides, enough of this Ahmed Shehzad and Umar Akmal hate speeches already. We have no new talent coming through. Just watch the ongoing T20 cup. So far the best performers are all those who were in the Sri lanka series squad, including Ahmed Shehzad!

Misbah in his press conference said that he is clueless, as to why the team performed so badly. First thing he should be to fired and the people who gave him 2 assignment as Coach and selector. He has proved to be incompetent.

The senators are throwing stones while standing in a glass house. Country is in the miserable state that it is in today because of similar incompetent, corrupt, and selfish folks (Jinnah being the only exception) have been involved in running the country since its inception. Situation in cricket is only an extension of what happens in the National Assembly. May be there is opportunity for one of these ignorant senators to run PCB. Gimme a break!

All roads used to be clocked, millions were spent on security, not to mention the loss to local businesses due to these fanatic security measures. They have the right to ask. If not, then next time try to play without all those security measures.

This is the first time I agree with PML-N lawmaker. Why were those 2 tried and failed players included instead of giving an opportunity to young players. Secondly based on Misbah’s comment about certain players avoiding physical fitness routines, why are they given chances again and again?

This is none of the politicians business, hands off the sport, fix the country first, you lost that innings over the 7 decades many times, yet have temerity to point finger. Let sport be independent and accountable for itself and to the masses, don't need regulations and laws for this accountability, PCB is created for the purpose to investigate itself and fix it or perish itself and with its current directors.

First of all Mickey Arthur was doing a great job and replacing him with an Imam like character is absoloutely mind boggling to me. Mickey Arthur's services in making Pakistan the number one T20 team had to be appreciated by letting him continue with his job but instead an Imam like character by the name of Misbah ul Haq was given the job. The most insane decision by all means.
