ISLAMABAD: Rain disrupted the Eighteenth National Ladies Tennis Championship which started here at the Syed Dilawar Abbas Tennis Complex on Wednesday.

Only a few matches were held on the opening day of the five-day championship organised by Subh-e-Nau.

In ladies singles first round, Azeena Aleem struggled against Alia Khalid before eventually winning the match 6-3, 7-6(6). Sehar Aleem overwhelmed Mahnoor Sohail 6-4, 4-6, 6-4, Zahra Umar outclassed Shahida Farooq 6-0, 6-0 while Maryam Mirza defeated Sara Rehman 6-1, 6-3 in other first-round matches. In girls U-14 category, Aqsa Khalid, Farah Shah Khan and Amna Ali won their opening-round matches.

Mahrukh Farooqui and Aqsa Akram registered victories in the girls U-18 first round while Shiza Sajid and Azeena Aleem won their respective U-18 second-round matches.

Girls U-10 (first round): Afaf Suleman bt Mahrukh Sajid 4-2, 4-2

Second round: Zunaisha Noor bt Eesha Zia 4-1, 4-1; Fatima Zahra Gul bt Sofia Usman 4-0, 4-0.
