RAWALPINDI: The Punjab police are likely to carry out a massive administrative reshuffle and have sought details of officials serving on key assignments for the last three years.

According to sources, details of police officers and officers serving with the district police, Punjab Constabulary, Special Branch, Counter-Terrorism Department, Punjab Highway Patrol, traffic police, welfare and finance and Special Protection Unit (SPU) have been sought by the provincial police chief.

The sources said the details of posting, place and period of posting had also been sought from all station house officers (SHOs), Moharrars being posted repeatedly in the same police station for three years and accountants who had served in the same district for more than three years.

Details of officials working on same posts for three years sought

In addition, the details of postings of officials, Motor Transport Officer, Naqdi Moharrar and in-charges of clothing stores have also been sought.

In this regard, a pro forma containing the name of region, district, rank and name, place of posting and period of posting was sent to all the divisional police chiefs and deputy inspector general of police Special Protection Unit (SPU) on Thursday with a direction to submit the details within 48 hours.

There are several police officials/officers who have been having domicile of the same district and also posted in Rawalpindi since longtime.

According to police rules, a police officer of the rank of inspector cannot be posted on the same position for more than three years.

It may be recalled that the same practice of reshuffling of police officers and officials who had been posted on the same lucrative position for more than three years had been exercised many times in the past but with no positive results.

According to sources, following provincial chief’s orders, a massive reshuffle was made in the Punjab Highway Patrol on Thursday.

“All those posted on the same positions for last three years have been transferred to other positions,” said a police official.

Separately, the regional police officer (RPO) on Thursday held a crime meeting with the city police officer of Rawalpindi and DPOs of Attock, Jhelum and Chakwal and reviewed the police performance. RPO Mohammad Ehsan Tufail directed the DPOs to visit police stations to check the working of staff.

The RPO also told the meeting that incidents like torture/death in police custody would not be accepted and directed the DPOs to visit every police station.

He also directed the DPOs to constitute special teams to arrest proclaimed offenders.
