KARACHI, Aug 2: The Fishermen’s Cooperative Society on Tuesday organized an English debate competition for the youngsters. As many as 11 children of the fishermen community participated in the contest. The topic was “Importance of cleanliness in our practical lives”.

An official of the Fishermen’s Cooperative Society announced that Ms Batool was declared first. The second and third positions were secured by Ghulam Farid and Saad.

He pointed out that the European Union and the countries importing seafood from our country had been stressing for the past many years that the standards of cleanliness at the fish market be enhanced.

In view of this, the Managing Committee of Fishermen’s Cooperative Society has decided to convince the fishermen that they should maintain a certain level of cleanliness, the official added.

The chief technical adviser of UNIDO, Zaidu Feleke, and the organization’s fishery consultant, Peter Davison, were the chief guests on the occasion.

In their speeches, they pointed out that if Pakistan wanted to enhance its seafood exports, then proper care would have to be taken at every level.

On the occasion, children of the fishermen vowed that they would be particular about cleanliness and would also keep their surroundings neat and clean.

The director-general of Marine Fisheries Department, Commodore S.Q. Raza, gave away shields and prizes to the winners of the competition. The Sindh Education Board on the occasion announced adoption of 15 schools located in the dwellings of the fishermen.—APP
