KARACHI, Aug 2: The president of Pakistan Medical Association, Dr Umer Ayub, said the proposals tabled by the owners of private medical colleges had already been made by the PMA, says a press release.

To substantiate his argument, the PMA president said the “demand” made by the owners of private medical colleges about holding by the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council of a licensing examination of all medical graduates before granting them a permanent registration and fixation of a minimum workload for medical teachers had been made by the PMA much earlier.

Dr Ayub said that the PMDC should conduct licensing exams only of students graduating from institutions that hold either proper full-scale affiliation or at least a provisional affiliation. There shall be no scope for those passing out from private institutions that have been rejected by the PMDC for want of proper standards in terms of faculty and facilities, he added.
