RAWALPINDI: Thieves adopted a novel way to burgle a jewellery shop located on Murree Road.

The thieves first got an adjacent shop on rent a week ago and then carried out the burglary during the Muharram holidays.

According to a senior police official, the incident took place on the night between Muharram 9 and 10. Some burglars broke into a jewellery shop in Gold Point Plaza on Murree Road from the adjacent shop, he added.

The official said the plaza’s manager had rented out a shop to an individual a week ago without a written agreement.

The suspect, who posed as an expatriate, visited the shop owned by Kamran Ali and asked him how to keep the jewellery safe and install CCTV camera system.

After obtaining the information, the suspect came to his shop with two other persons and told the security guard of the building that he would be staying at his shop in the night as he had to work on the decoration design.

During the holidays, he broke into Kamran Ali’s shop and stole large quantity of gold and diamonds. The police said the value of the stolen items was yet to be estimated.

The city police officer took notice of the incident and called SP Rawal Asif Masood to his office on Wednesday. The CPO directed the SP to trace the culprits and recover the stolen items within the next 72 hours.

The CPO also constituted a team consisting of technology experts to investigate the case and keep him updated.
