KARACHI: Two young men from Karachi who were on a preaching tour with a Tableeghi Jamaat drowned while swimming in a canal near Dadori Pattan, about 40 kilometres from Thatta, on Monday, local police said.

They said the victims in their mid-20s were swimming with their two other colleagues when one of them lost balance and shouted for help. The three other friends, they said, tried to rescue him but could not succeed and one of them also lost control and drowned in the canal.

“The other two were rescued by area people,” said an official. “The victims were residents of a Korangi area and parts of preaching team of Tableeghi Jamaat. The bodies of the two victims were retrieved after hours of efforts. The area police have made arrangements to move their bodies to their home after meeting formalities.”
