KARACHI, July 31: An under-trial prisoner died in a brawl with fellow inmates of Juvenile Jail on Sunday. Police said that Imran, 17, alias Rizwan, was attacked with sticks by other inmates in the morning assembly at 6am inside the prison. He was taken to the jail hospital from where he was referred to the Civil Hospital. However, he was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital. Sources at the hospital said that the victim apparently died of head injuries.

Police said that the attackers were identified as Zafar Iqbal and Arif. The two UTPs are facing trial in the murder and robbery cases respectively.

According to the police, Imran had been facing trial in a robbery case since February 2004.

ACCIDENTS: Three persons died in two different accidents on Sunday.

In New Karachi Industrial Area, a young girl was knocked down to death by a speeding water tanker.

Police said that Sana Suliman, 12, was crossing a road in Gabol town’s Sector 11-G when a speeding water tanker knocked her down. Police arrested the errant driver and impounded the vehicle.

In a hit-and-run accident, two young men died on Shahrah-i-Pakistan early on Sunday morning.

Police said that Asif, 24 and Imran, 25, was on their motorcycle when a speeding truck hit them near Water Pump. The bodies were shifted to hospital for autopsy.

DIES: A woman apparently died of an overdose of heroin in New Karachi Industrial Area on Sunday.

Police and hospital sources said that as per the initial examination, the woman seemed to have died of a heroin overdose.
