Awareness drive against smoking

LAHORE, July 30: Punjab Health Minister Dr Tahir Ali Javed has called for launching a massive awareness campaign to inform people about hazardous effects of smoking with a view to preventing heart and lungs diseases, bronchitis and cancer. He was talking to a delegation of consultants and specialists here on Saturday.

He said the government was providing maximum funds for the prevention and treatment of cancer at public sector hospitals. He directed oncologists to create awareness among people as well as general practitioners regarding the harmful effects of cancer and its treatment without proper investigation.

He said the people should control their diet, quit smoking, exercise daily and adopt Islamic teachings related to healthcare to ensure good health. He said hospitals would be made smoking free to promote healthy lifestyle.
