SARGODHA, July 30: At least four women and a man have been killed in and around the city over ‘honour’ during the last couple of days. In the latest incident, one Naseem and her husband Sana Ullah were allegedly killed by their son-in-law Ejaz Ahmed in Gulshan-i-Jamal. The accused suspected that the couple was responsible for estrangement between himself and his wife Sumera, who was now living with her parents. Ejaz was also suspicious of his wife’s character.

Reports said Ejaz went to his in-laws’ house on Friday and had an argument with the couple over his wife’s activities, who was not present at that time. After exchanging hot words, the accused became infuriated and shot the couple dead. The accused was looking for his wife, when police arrested him.

Similarly, one Zaheer Dogar allegedly strangulated his wife Rani over suspicion at the Club Road as she was not willing to live with him.

In another incident, one Sher Afghan of Phularwan had killed his mother and sister as he had suspicion about their character.

The NGOs, working for women rights, including Tang Wasib and Aurat Foundation have voiced their concern over the increasing incidents of ‘honour killing’. They allege that police, in such cases, mostly favours the accused by presenting weak evidence against them, who often get acquitted. They demand that such cases be prepared in a just manner so that justice could be delivered.
