HYDERABAD: Rain lashes Hyderabad

Published July 31, 2005

HYDERABAD, July 30: Hyderabad received rain on Saturday, followed by a power breakdown in almost the entire city. The rain, which began at 11am and continued for about 30 minutes without a break, broke the long spell of heat experienced by people for the last couple of weeks.

Rainwater accumulated on almost all main roads and in low-lying areas. The meteorological department recorded 9mm of rain. The maximum temperature was recorded at 34 degree centigrade and the minimum at 27 degree centigrade. Humidity in the air was recorded at 78 per cent.

According to the Met office, more rains are expected at one or two places with thunderstorm. Work in offices was badly affected due to the power breakdown. There was also no power supply to the filter plant, pumping stations and water-works of the Water and Sanitation Agency for several hours, affecting draining of rainwater and supply of drinking water to people.
