VEHARI: Police claimed on Wednesday to have foiled an underage marriage bid and arrested four people at Chak 45-WB about 15 kilometres away from here.

The family of Saud, 25, a resident of 63-WB, and Perveen, 13, a resident of 45-WB, had arranged their wedding at the residence of Ghaffar Husain, father of Perveen. On a tip-off, a Saddar police team led by SHO Akhtar Shah raided the house and foiled the marriage attempt.

Police registered a case against Ghaffar, Naseem, mother of Perveen, Saud and his father Khadim Hussain under section 5/6 of the Child Marriage Restraint Ordinance 2015 and 342 of the PPC.

The SHO said the Nikkah registrar managed to escape.
