LARKANA, July 29: By the deadline for filing nomination papers for local body elections, 1,619 candidates filed their papers for different categories in Larkana district to contest 44 union council seats.

Sources told Dawn here on Friday that for 176 seats of male Muslim councillors 676 candidates filed nomination papers. For 88 seats for Muslim (female) councillors 200 papers were filed, 339 for 88 peasant-workers seats and 147 for 88 seats of peasant-workers (female).

For 44 minority seats, 68 candidates submitted nomination papers.

Official sources said that for 44 nazim naib nazim seats 189 papers were filed in Larkana district.

The election commission sources said that for 11 union councils of Larkana (urban) 210 candidates submitted nomination papers while for 7 union councils of Larkana (rural) 100 candidates filed papers.
