ISLAMABAD: A climber has died and another rescued on descend after successfully summiting a 6,400 metres peak in Nagar, Alpine Club of Pakistan (ACP) said on Friday.

Team leader Fida Hussain fell into a crevasse and the other three team members had gone missing on Thursday after they had climbed the 6,000 metre plus peak Mir Shikar in Nagar.

“The body of the team leader was recovered while the three expedition members were rescued in an operation carried out by army helicopter pilots. The body of Fida Hussain was airlifted to his village on the directions of the Force Commander Gilgit-Baltistan (GB),” ACP Secretary Karrar Haidri said.

According to the ACP, the four climbers had set out to summit the peak and after climbing the peak, they were confronted by bad weather conditions.

Meanwhile, the ACP said besides the Nepalese climber, Nirmal Purja, who had set out to summit all 14 highest peaks in the world in seven months using bottled oxygen, one of the main highlights was Catalan mountaineer Sergie Mingote who summited six 8,000ers from July 2018 to July 2019.

Far more amazing were the three rescue missions, two consecutive rescues that Sergi Mingote performed including bringing down a Pakistani high altitude porter, which took all the energy left in his body, as he mentioned in a post for his fans.

Sergi Mingote said the mental stress was even harder than the physical effort.
