LAHORE: Eid and Independence Day holidays afforded people an opportunity to enjoy festive occasions with dear ones.

The parks and other recreational places came alive with the presence of people on the two days of Eid. A good number of people turned up at zoo, Safari, museum, the Lawrence Garden, Model Town Park, Gulshan-i-Iqbal Park, Jallo and Racecourse.

People, especially youngsters, also enthusiastically geared up for the Independence Day celebrations. In fact, the Aug 14 celebrations began earlier with the appearance of flags, buntings and other paraphernalia being sold in every nook and corner of the city.

Various government institutions such as the Lahore Arts Council, the Punjab Council of Arts, and the Punjab Institute of Language, Arts and Culture arranged programmes to celebrate the Independence Day.

The LAC held a week-long theatre festival while the Punjab Arts Council held a DG Khan show at the Alhamra Art Center, The Mall. And more recently an inter-provincial cultural show ‘Hum Aik Hain’ was held. A workshop of drawing for children was also held as part of the celebrations.

On Wednesday (today), a flag-hoisting ceremony will be held at the Lahore Arts Council and other government institutions. Besides, there will be musical shows, plays, exhibitions and visual art competitions.

The traffic police officials were deployed in the city to prevent wheelies and hooliganism.
