RAWALPINDI: A day-long poster-making competition and exhibition titled ‘Historical Places of Pakistan’ held on Friday at Rawalpindi Arts Council (RAC) showcased the work of the local artists to mark Independence Day celebrations.

PTI MPA Farah Agha was the chief guest on the occasion.

RAC Director Waqar Ahmed and a large number of people from the twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad attended the function.

More than 40 young artists participated in the competition. They displayed 100 artworks, showcasing beautiful and historical places of Pakistan.

The aim to conduct the competition was to provide platform to young talent of the region and highlight the positive image of the country.

The competition was adjudged by senior artist Mehmood Ali and Younis Roomi who declared Wajiha Raja first, Saman Durrani second, Syeda Ume Abiha third position.

The artists painted the historical buildings like Faisal Mosque, Lahore Fort, Chaurangi, Badshahi Mosque and others. The artists used different medium like pen and pencil and oil paints.

Speaking on the occasion, MPA Farah Agha said that it was an appreciating step of Arts Council to create patriotism among youth through positive activities. She said that Pakistan was very beautiful country in every aspect while every Pakistani should play his role in its progress.

Naheed Manzoor said that such kind of activities provide self-confidence to youth. She said that all the activities are arranged with national zeal.

RAC Director Waqar Ahmed said that the basic aim of the exhibition was to promote young talent in the region. He said the RAC had provided a platform to the young people to express their talent in different form of arts and culture.

He said more functions would be held in the coming days to mark the Independence Day and to express solidarity with Kashmir.

He said the art council had arranged different programmes on Kashmir Solidarity Day and Independence Day.
